NERISSA VELTEN, LM, CPM, IBCLC

Nerissa graduated from the National College of Midwifery in 2014, is a Licensed Midwife (LM)
through the Medical Board of California and a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the
North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). She has a B.A. in Biology from Scripps College.
She also holds current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP),
and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO).

In addition to her Midwifery work, Nerissa has been helping support mothers to breastfeed as a
La Leche League Leader since 2003. In 2018 she also became an International Board Certified
Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

As a student midwife Nerissa completed multiple internships, working with midwives both at a
birth center and a homebirth-based practice as well as doing an apprenticeship in Senegal and
the Philippines for a month each. Since becoming a Licensed Midwife, she has volunteered with
Midwives for Haiti and Haiti Healthcare Partners. In February 2018 she spent a month in
Bangladesh in conjunction with the HOPE Foundation Bangladesh and Midwife Pilgrim helping
with the Rohingya Refugee Crisis. Nerissa loves traveling and has been to 45 countries in the
world. Sometimes traveling and being able to help with midwifery skills coincide.

Nerissa recently relocated from Southern California and is still getting to know this area and all
the things there are to do here. Nerissa has two college-aged daughters who were both born at
home in beautiful waterbirths with the help of midwives.

“I believe all things birth, babies and breastfeeding first came to my attention when I was 12
and my little sister was born. Since then my passion for birth and breastfeeding has only been
strengthened, especially with the birth of my own children. I believe God designed women’s
perfectly to grow, birth, and feed their child(ren). I believe that giving birth is a life-changing
event in a woman’s life. Women are strong. Birth is not an illness. Pregnancy and birth
are normal life processes. I am here to serve you and help you have the birth you desire.”
